Using MIM technology to develop metal part geometries, we should be aware of the flexibility of designing plastic parts that are free from the limitations of traditional metalworking techniques. the MIM process can handle complex shaped parts, evaluate multiple parts, integrate various features/functions into a single part, enhance product assembly performance, simplify mechanical parts, reduce mass, and tailor various physical properties to the intended end use.
MIM is the most cost effective method for manufacturing medium or large numbers of small and complex metal parts. One way to evaluate alternatives is to envision how many machining operations will be used to produce the product. Generally, for products requiring more than 4 operations, MIM is the preferred process. Note: For each machining feature, machining costs will increase; for mold forming, MIM costs add little or no cost.
